Trip Facts

Some treks are best judged by how many places you have visited whilst others are memorable by how long it takes to get there.

The 10-day Pikey Peak Trek is all about the latter. Starting from Kathmandu, this private Himalayan trek takes you via road to the more tranquil Solu region. Once there, take established mountain paths through traditional Sherpa villages, open grazing land, forested hillsides and fantastic alpine landscapes. With a relaxed pace you can ease into your trekking and enjoy the scenery.

Reach the summit of Pikey Peak at 4,065m and enjoy incredible views of the Himalayas at sunrise. With the right conditions, you can enjoy views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Makalu and many other impressive Himalayan mountains. The trek up to the summit will slowly build up, through Dhap, Jhapre and Lhamuje, and provide some wonderful views of traditional villages, prayer flags and peaceful walking routes.

This itinerary also allows you time to relax and take in everything around you. After descending down towards Jasmane Bhanjyang, and heading towards Junbesi, we have a whole day to relax and take in the local culture.

We have many years of experience creating trips in Nepal. We will give you realistic walking times, we take into account the travel times by road. We have created this itinerary to allow you to get a real feel for the area with some great trekking days and plenty of time to relax.

Why Choose this Trek?

Whilst not the most busy route in the Himalayas, this trek offers a great opportunity to enjoy some easy walking with stunning views, traditional villages and really get to know the Solu region. The trek takes you through forested areas, open hillside and scattered villages. The views along the route will slowly build up.

Whilst the main attraction of this hike is the summit, if you're looking to get a glimpse of Everest but don't want to commit to a longer trek to Everest Base Camp, this is a great option. Whilst this isn't a quick photo opportunity mountain, it is a great trek with some great interactions with locals, changing light over the hills, peaceful early mornings and walking between villages. Due to the nature of the trek your views of the mountains may not be guaranteed, however there is a lot to enjoy along the route.

With this being a 10-day trek, we have allowed you time to fully enjoy this experience. Rather than heading back to Kathmandu straight after reaching the summit, we continue towards Junbesi. We have an extra day here to enjoy the local culture. We have created this itinerary with realistic expectations in mind. Trekking isn't just about covering distance, we want you to have plenty of time to relax, be flexible and get used to your environment. If you're looking for a trip with great authentic interactions, a leisurely pace and a slower introduction to the Himalayas of Nepal this is a great option.

Why Choose Us?

To create a great organised trek we need people who understand the terrain, are aware of changing conditions and know when to change plans. We use local knowledge to create this trek. We will arrange your private jeep transfers, accommodation and guide you along your route. We pay attention to the details.

Our local adventure guides have great knowledge of the area. They will tell you interesting stories about the communities you will pass, explain the significance of cultural spots and keep your long days of walking interesting. They are also trained in emergency situations, are aware of any potential issues with altitude and will follow correct safety procedures. We plan our treks carefully, keep an eye on the conditions and may need to change our itinerary. No trekking company can guarantee the weather or eliminate all risks in the mountains however with careful planning and responsible decisions we can make a big difference.

As this is a private trek we will organise this around your group. We value clear communication, realistic expectations and a leisurely pace. We want you to feel confident with your trek and really enjoy the route. We want you to understand the landscape you're walking through and come away with some amazing memories.

Overall Spring and Autumn are the best times to go due to the comfortable walking conditions and the potential for clear views across the Himalayas. There is no guarantee you’ll see the summit.

Difficulty and Fitness

The Pikey Peak Trek is usually considered to be a moderate trek. As long as you’re comfortable with walking for several days in a row and have trained for the rough mountain terrain this trek should be fine. No technical climbing skills are needed for the standard walking route. However it is important to train well, wear suitable shoes and have a sensible approach.

You’ll be walking for around 3.5-6+ hours each day. This trek can be a bit challenging on the summit day and trek to Junbesi. The highest point on the trek is 4065m meaning altitude sickness can be a real issue.

We recommend you do some regular walking/hill training/comfortable aerobic activity in the weeks leading up to your trip. If you start to get any symptoms of altitude sickness please let your guide know quickly. The itinerary should be flexible so we can allow you time to rest, descend or do whatever is required.

Accommodation and Food

Most of the accommodation on this trek will be in local teahouses or mountain lodges. Hotels will be booked in Kathmandu. The accommodation in the mountains will be basic compared to the city. The standard of accommodation, bathrooms, hot water and charging will depend on where you’re staying.

Food along the route will often include traditional Nepalese food, rice and lentils, noodles, soups, potatoes, eggs and other local food. There may be less choice at higher altitudes. We recommend you pack some suitable snacks and let us know about any dietary requirements. We can then discuss with you.
