Introduction:
Bhutan is a small, landlocked country located in the eastern Himalayas between India to the south, east, and west and China to the north. Known as the “Land of the Thunder Dragon,” Bhutan is famous for its untouched natural beauty, strong cultural traditions, and unique approach to development that prioritizes happiness and environmental conservation.
Bhutan’s landscape is dominated by towering Himalayan mountains, deep valleys, fast-flowing rivers, and thick forests that cover more than 70% of the country. One of its most remarkable natural features is Gangkhar Puensum, which remains the highest unclimbed peak on Earth due to Bhutan’s respect for sacred mountains.
Bhutan has a rich cultural heritage deeply influenced by Vajrayana Buddhism, which shapes daily life, festivals, architecture, and traditions. Monasteries and fortress-like structures called dzongs are important religious and administrative centers throughout the country.
Because of its strict tourism policy and commitment to preserving culture and nature, Bhutan remains one of the most unique and carefully protected travel destinations in the world.

Itinerary:
Day 01: Paro arrive (D):
The flight into Bhutan is one of the most scenic journeys in the Himalayas, offering breathtaking views of snow-covered peaks of the Himalayas. As the plane descends into Paro Valley, you will see the silvery Paro Chhu winding through the valley, along with the impressive Paro Dzong and the historic watchtower Ta Dzong overlooking the town. Upon arrival at Paro International Airport, our representative will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel.
On the drive toward Thimphu, after crossing Isuna village and before reaching Chhuzom, you will see the historic Tachog Lhakhang located beside the Paro–Thimphu highway. To reach the temple, visitors cross the Paro River on a traditional iron chain bridge. Built in the 14th century by the famous saint and engineer Thangtong Gyalpo, the temple is linked to a legend of a spiritual horse vision. Although the original bridge was destroyed by floods in 1969, it was rebuilt in traditional style in 2005. Thangtong Gyalpo is known for building 108 iron bridges across Bhutan and Tibet.
Day 02: Thimphu only (B / L / D):
After breakfast, you will visit the National Memorial Chorten, one of the most important landmarks in Thimphu. The monument was envisioned by the third king of Bhutan, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, as a symbol of world peace and prosperity which was completed in 1974 after his passing, it serves both as a memorial to the king—often called the Father of Modern Bhutan—and as a place of prayer and meditation. Inside the chorten, visitors can see detailed paintings and statues that offer insight into Buddhist philosophy and teachings.
Next, you will continue to the impressive Buddha Dordenma, a massive statue of Shakyamuni Buddha located on a hill overlooking the city. The statue contains more than 100,000 smaller Buddha statues inside it and stands on the historic site of Kuensel Phodrang. From Buddha Point, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Thimphu Valley. You can also take a scenic two-hour hike from here to Changangkha Lhakhang, a beautiful hilltop temple offering excellent views of the city.
Day 03: Thimphu to Punakha Valley. (B / L / D):
After an early breakfast, drive toward the scenic Dochula Pass (3,088 m / 10,130 ft), one of the most beautiful mountain viewpoints in Bhutan. The pass is decorated with 108 chortens, prayer flags, and mani walls. On clear days, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the eastern Himalayas, including the highest mountain in Bhutan, Gangkhar Puensum (7,497 m), along with several other snow-covered peaks.
From Dochula Pass, you will continue your journey with a winding descent into the valley of Wangdue Phodrang, located about 1,700 m below the pass. On the way, visit the famous Chimi Lhakhang in Lobesa Valley. This temple is dedicated to the legendary Buddhist master Drukpa Kunley, who used humor and unconventional teachings to spread Buddhism. Chimi Lhakhang is widely known as the Temple of Fertility, and many couples visit to pray for blessings for children. The temple is reached by a pleasant 30-minute walk through rice fields from the road.
In the afternoon, visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of two rivers. Once the capital of Bhutan until 1955, it remains the winter residence of the central monastic body. This historic fortress is also where the first king of Bhutan, Ugyen Wangchuck, was crowned in 1907. Despite facing damage from fires, earthquakes, and floods over the centuries, the dzong has been beautifully restored.
After exploring Punakha Dzong, visit the nearby Punakha Suspension Bridge, one of the longest suspension bridges in the country. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of the river valley and surrounding Himalayan landscape.
Day 04: Punakha to Paro (B / L / D):
After breakfast, drive to Paro and begin your sightseeing with a visit to Ta Dzong. This historic building once served as a watchtower for the nearby Rinpung Dzong and now houses the National Museum, where you can explore Bhutan’s rich history, culture, and traditional art.
From Ta Dzong, walk down the scenic trail to visit the impressive Rinpung Dzong, built in 1646 by Ngawang Namgyal, the first spiritual and temporal ruler of Bhutan. The dzong serves as the administrative center of Paro District and the residence of the monastic body. It also houses the offices of the district governor and the local court.
The approach to the fortress is through the traditional covered wooden bridge Nemi Zam. Walking across this bridge along a stone-paved path offers a beautiful view of the dzong’s stunning Bhutanese architecture. Here, you can also try wearing traditional Bhutanese national dress for memorable photos with the dzong and wooden bridge in the background. Later, enjoy a relaxing evening walk around Paro town and explore local shops for souvenirs.
Day 05: Tiger Nest Hike (B / L / D):
After breakfast, hike to the famous Paro Taktsang, also known as Tiger’s Nest Monastery. This iconic Buddhist temple complex is dramatically perched on a cliff about 3,120 meters above sea level in the upper valley of Paro. It is one of the most sacred and visited sites in Bhutan and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and lush green valleys.
The hike to the monastery usually takes about 1 hour and 45 minutes, either on foot or by horse. If the full hike feels challenging, you can stop and rest at the scenic teahouse cafeteria located about halfway up the trail. The path passes through beautiful blue pine forests and traditional prayer wheels, making the journey as memorable as the destination itself.
