Sometimes, the flights also get canceled. We recommend our trekkers budget USD 600 in case you have to opt for a helicopter flight. Note that it doesn't happen frequently.
Short Everest Base Camp Trek - 11 Days Itinerary
Our Everest Base Camp trek begins with a thrilling flight to Lukla. We will fly either from Kathmandu or Ramechhap airport. If you are trekking in the spring or autumn season, you will take the Lukla flight from Ramechhap Airport.
To reach here on time for a morning flight, you have to leave your hotel in Kathmandu around 2:00 AM and drive 4 to 5 hours. The mountain views are stunning during the flight. Upon landing in Lukla, we will get our bags and start trekking with porters.
Following the Dudh Koshi River, we will descend through lush forests and small villages to Phakding. On the way, we will cross many suspension bridges.
*Note: The air traffic is very high at Kathmandu airport in spring and autumn, so Lukla flights are operated from Ramechhap Airport. It keeps flights on schedule.
Continuing from Phakding, you will hike to the iconic Namche Bazaar. The trail goes through rhododendron and pine forests and crosses many suspension bridges on the way.
You will also cross the long Tenzing Hillary Suspension Bridge. Our permits are registered at the police check post in Monjo village. From here, we will officially enter the Sagarmatha National Park. Towards the end of the trail, the trail gets steep.
Namche Bazaar is the biggest Sherpa settlement in the Khumbu region. Here, you will see the daily lives of the locals and also go on a side hike to acclimatize. We will wake up before sunrise and hike to the Hotel Everest View.
During hiking, we can see a majestic view of Mt. Thamserku. Upon reaching Hotel Everest View, we will see a captivating view of Mt. Everest, Mt. Lhotse, Mt. Nuptse, and Mt. Ama Dablam.
Hotel Everest View is a luxury hotel. Every window of this hotel offers a view of Mt. Everest. From here, you can also continue the hike to Khumjung monastery or return to Namche Bazaar to spend the night.
From Namche Bazaar, the trail continues to Tengboche village. First, you will walk on flat terrain and reach Kyangjuma. The trail then descends to Phortse Thanga, where we will take a short break from lunch.
Further, the trail ascends to Tengboche village. We can see a beautiful view of Khumbi La and Taboche Peak while trekking. Likewise, in Tengboche village, we will explore the biggest monastery in the Khumbu region.
The mountain views of Everest and Ama Dablam are spectacular from here.
Tengboche ahead, we will ascend to Dingboche village, which is known as the Summer Valley of the Khumbu region. The trail first descends to Doboche village and goes through rhododendron forests to the Imja Khola Valley floor.
From here, we will ascend to Pangboche village and pass by small settlements like Orsho and Shomare. As we get close to Dingboche, we can see the treeline fading away. The trail also crosses terraced fields.
Leaving Dingboche village, we will follow a steep, rocky trail and gradually ascend to Dughla Pass (4,830 m/15,846 ft). Crossing a suspension bridge, we will keep trekking on the steep uphill trail along the Khumbu Glacier to reach Lobuche village.
Situated at the bottom of Lobuche Peak in the alpine setting of the Himalayas, the scenery from this village is incredible. Compared to Tengboche and Dingboche villages, the services are limited in Lobuche village.
On this day, you will hike to Everest Base Camp. From Lobuche village, first we will trek to Gorak Shep. The terrain is steep and rocky, so we have to be very careful. We will leave our luggage in a lodge in Gorak Shep and continue hiking to Everest Base Camp.
Gorak Shep onwards, the trail follows the Khumbu Glacier and takes us to the base of Mount Everest. We can see the famous huge rock that marks EBC. We may hike a little closer to Khumbu Icefall to enjoy a better view.
After exploring the base camp, we will retrace our steps back to Gorak Shep to spend the night. Note that trekkers are not allowed to spend the night at the base camp.
Today begins quite early with an excellent hike to Kala Patthar. It is the highest point on the Everest Base Camp trek. As the view of Mt. Everest is blocked from the base camp, the Kala Patthar hike is a must before we return to Lukla.
From Kala Patthar, we will see a gorgeous sunrise and a mesmerizing view of Mt. Everest. Likewise, we can see many other mountains surrounding us. After enjoying the view, we will return to Gorak Shep and descend to Pheriche to spend the night.
From Pheriche to Namche Bazaar, we will trek along uneven cliff sides and pass by small settlements. As the trail continues, we will trek through lush forests. The mountain views and scenery along the way are fantastic.
Today, we will trek back to Lukla. It is our last day of the trek. The trail steeply descends and goes through rhododendron forests. Upon reaching Phakding, we will have lunch and follow an uphill route to Lukla.
We will fly back to Kathmandu on this day. It will be a morning flight. Our driver and car will be waiting for you at the Ramechhap or Kathmandu airport to pick you up.

Short Everest Base Camp Trek - 11 Days Dates & Availability
Essential Information

During the short Everest Base Camp trek in Nepal, you will travel to Kathmandu (the capital of Nepal) and the Everest region. The accommodation facility in Kathmandu is great.
We'll book a three-star hotel in this package. Trekkers can upgrade to 4-star or 5-star hotels as well. While trekking to Everest Base Camp, you will spend nights in lodges.
The Everest Base Camp trail has ample lodges to accommodate hundreds of trekkers. Luxury lodges are also available for trekkers who can pay a premium price.
Our short Everest Base Camp trek package includes a basic lodge. 90% of trekkers spend the night in the basic lodge. The rooms are small and twin-shared.
There is not much in the rooms, but you will get a very comfortable bed and blanket to spend the night. Single rooms are limited and cost extra money.
We only book single rooms if our trekkers request it during the trip booking. Washrooms are made outside of the lodges. You will share it with other trekkers.
Very few basic lodges have private washrooms. We will do our best to book them, but they are not guaranteed.
Charging:
There are no charging slots in the rooms. Charging stations are separately built where trekkers can charge their devices.
It is a paid service and may cost USD 1 to USD 3 per device. We highly recommend carrying a solar power bank and extra batteries.
WiFi and mobile network:
WiFi is available up to Namche Bazaar. The network remains unstable because of weather and location. You have to pay a few bucks to connect to WiFi.
The mobile network is also not stable in the mountains. It comes and goes, so it's not reliable. We stay connected with our trekking groups through satellite phones. Our guides carry them for emergency communication and to send us daily updates.
Hot shower:
You might have heard or seen a video that trekkers do not take showers during the Everest Base Camp trek. This is because water is always freezing cold in the mountains, and hot water costs extra money.
With the increase in altitude, it may cost you up to USD 7 to take a hot shower. We recommend our trekkers have a balance between showering, using wet wipes, and wearing fresh clothes while hiking.
Pack a few extra pairs of undies, socks, t-shirts, and other clothes that touch your skin.
What are you going to eat in the mountains?
During trekking, you will eat three meals a day, which is already covered in our short Everest Base Camp trek package cost. Trekkers can also buy additional snacks and beverages on their own.
Your main meals usually include the typical Nepali dish dal bhat or other dishes like fried rice, porridge, stew, curries, thukpa, momo, spaghetti, pasta, chapati, etc.
In Phakding and Namche Bazaar, you will find many Western dishes like pizza and burgers. Similarly, freshly baked bread, pastries, pies, teas, coffee, and other beverages are also available.
We recommend that trekkers buy snacks for the journey to Kathmandu. Drinking water is also available throughout the trail.
Carry a reusable water bottle and refill your bottle with boiled drinking water at a very low price in the lodge. Nalgene water bottles are best for the Everest Base Camp trek because it is the best at regulating the temperature of the water.
Luggage
Every trekker carries two luggage while hiking to Everest Base Camp. First will be your daypack. Its weight limit is 5 kg. You will carry the daypack.
It is best to pack your documents, money, snacks, water bottles, SPF, lip balm, and any essential things that you may need while walking.
Your second league will be a duffel bag. Our porter will carry a duffel bag. Every trekker has an 8/9 kg weight limit for a duffel bag. Our one porter carries a duffel bag of two trekkers.
You can store any extra luggage in our office or in your hotel's locker room in Kathmandu.
Travel insurance for the short Everest Base Camp trek
Travel insurance is compulsory if you want to do the short Everest Base Camp trek with us. It must cover helicopter evacuation (up to 5,500 meters) and medical bills.
You can include other coverages in your insurance, too. At the moment, there is no good travel insurance option for trekkers in Nepal.
So, buy travel insurance in your country. Having a medical backup will allow you to travel freely.
Best time to trek to the tallest mountain in the world
Like the standard EBC trek, the best times for the short Everest Base Camp trek are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November).
Though you can do this trek throughout the year, spring and autumn have the most ideal climate and weather.
The trekking route is bustling with trekkers from around the world. Therefore, the environment is quite cheerful. The daylight hours are long, and the climate is pleasant.
You will witness stunning panoramas and enjoy a lovely walk. Nights are comparatively cold. As you will experience varying temperatures, pack all kinds of clothes, and you will be fine.
June to August is the summer and monsoon season in Nepal. The lower parts of the Everest region and Kathmandu see heavy rainfall. It impacts the Lukla flights and makes the trail slippery and muddy.
Likewise, the climate is hot and humid, and visibility is low. The best thing about the summer trek is the lush vegetation and rainy landscape.
We also love trekking to Everest Base Camp in winter because of the peaceful trails and snowy landscapes. However, trekkers must be well-prepared for cold weather and understand potential Lukla flight delays because of unstable weather in winter.
We rarely see trekkers on the Everest Base Camp route in the winter, so if you want to enjoy peaceful trails, this is your time to trek. The mountain views are breathtaking in winter.
Altitude sickness during the trek
This short Everest Base Camp trek itinerary has one acclimatization day. So, the risk of altitude sickness is a little high following this itinerary.
If you think you need more time to adjust to high elevation, we recommend our 14 days Everest Base Camp trek. It has two acclimatization days.
At high altitudes, oxygen levels, and air pressure are different, and most trekkers are not used to it. If they keep ascending without acclimatizing, they may suffer from altitude sickness.
So, we take acclimatization breaks and follow other preventive measures. Acclimatizing means adjusting your body to a high-altitude climate.
Ascending slowly, maintain your pace, keep yourself hydrated, and listen to your body. These are some things that will help you avoid altitude sickness and over-exertion during trekking.
Please do not take the high altitude effects lightly. Even if you are physically fit, it can crumble you. So, follow our suggestions and listen to your guide.
